The second (manual) data entry showed just 6 papers with data differences from the scanned data. Just one was changed enough to affect the tight margin in the original count of 1.51 votes. This was one of the ballot papers with queries from the original data noted during the original count. As a result an additional ballot paper was valid and increased Chris Davies' vote by one and the value of the papers forming his and Sajj Karim's surpluses by 0.01 in the critical count for three places. As part of Chris' surplus the additional valid paper was transferred to the leading candidate in the close result, increasing their margin of election from 1.51 to 2.04 votes. Because of candidates' subsequent withdrawals the results including these close margins have not been published.

What the recheck exercise demonstrates is the improvement in accuracy of data acquisition for STV elections in the last four years. In a similar exercise in 2003 the number of papers with data differences was 39 plus a further 11 where the manually entered data turned out to be incorrect on rechecking with the actual ballot papers. In both rechecks, the great majority of papers with differences had errors which only affected preferences which were not reached in transfers during the counts.
